ping pong equipment
How do you make a ping pong ball catapult?
It must fit in a 1 cubic foot box and throws the ball 40 feet. The design must be entirely mechanical. No electrical equipment, compressed gas, sling shots, crossbows, explosives or flammables. Please help, I can't find instructions anywhere else. Thank you so much.

If catapults are not out, use a mousetrap to fashion one. This would give you a spring and a tripping mechanism. Attach the trap to a 1ft 2x4 board and wire some sort of arm onto the moving portion of the trap.
Another idea would be to use a system of pullies and a weight. Drop the weight from a height so that it pulls down on a rope. Multiply that motion into a quickly moving upward motion. The weight's decend will only be slowed down by the weight of the pingpong ball and the fricion of the pulleys--not much.
Google 'ping pong launcher' and you can find some other ideas too.
